I took a walk today to clear my head. This is what happened:
I thought about communications. I thought about Rethink church. I thought about "being in the world, but not of it." And around and around. Which made me think about my original purpose of the walk. To clear my head. To be in silence. To hear God, but in essence just to be quiet. But I found there are different types of noise: one you hear with your ears, the other is noise in your head. We live in a world inundated with noise. New tools have made communication almost instantaneous. Between emails flowing through my inbox and tweets coming through Twhirl there is no rest for the eyes, fingers or mind. So, from rethinking church to rethinking communications I had to ask...should I rethink Sabbath? Is sabbath more important now than it has ever been? Is sabbath something that should be taught more from the pulpits and from a campaign? As we think of church as a verb to do, should we include church as a verb to be?
