I'm still actually thinking about that last post.

Who was I kidding?

So, I decide to begin blogging right before vacation making the comment that I will blog every day. What a joke. I try not to spend much time at home on the computer. I was doing pretty good just to check my email occasionally and MySpace. In the last 2 months I have added: Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads and Blogger. After sitting at a computer at work for 8 hours I don't really want to come home and get on the computer. But here I am. I keep thinking of "Where your treasure is, your heart will be also." If that is true, would my treasure be the computer? Being on the computer takes away time from my family, dog and real responsibility which then affects my quality of life. Maybe it would be better "Where your time is spent, your heart will be also." In this case, I think I will sign off since my husband is back home and spend some time with him.

I met a man.

I met a man today. He was from Germany and in the United States for a meeting. He was able to come to our agency to take a tour and spend some time with our team. His English was very good with very little accent. He shared some history of Germany and the United Methodist Church. We learned of some of the struggles he experiences working in communications. Some similar to the United States.

I received an email from my friend in South Africa. He is concerned about the elections coming up. The soon-to-be president has been in trouble and his "followers" have said they are willing to kill for him. Xenophobia is still an issue.

Some communities in South Africa have as many as 1 in 4 with AIDS. They have medication, but no food to take with the medication. Refugees from Sudan have escaped massacres only to die in camps from a mosquito bite.

And in the U.S., would you believe there are still people who go hungry? People without affordable healthcare and housing? Even xenophobia. What will you do about the injustices? What will I do?

Light thoughts

Should my first post be light or heavy material. I have many things on my mind in both areas. Perhaps some of the heavier issues will still be there tomorrow.

On a light note, Facebook has been interesting. I resisted joining because I did not want to keep up with multiple social networks. Within a week I have more "friends" than MySpace and I know a lot more about what's going on in their lives. I have found some friends I haven't spoken to in years and IM friends I haven't seen in hours. Though "friend" may actually be too stong a word. Most would be acquaintances and some are friends of "friends". Should I approve everyone or leave some out.

What does Emily Post have to say about social networking etiquette?

Welcome

Welcome to Grab Bag Musings. Each day I hope to write about my thoughts on a myriad of subjects.
